Foundational Statements

These foundational statements emerged from our research and engagement processes, and now guide the NWT Education Renewal initiative.

Key Competencies

Although curriculum is still oriented toward the individual, it will be important to consider the curriculum in light of this requirement that the individual be construed as a relational individual. In this way, the NWT capable person brings the possibilities for orienting him or herself in the world in ways that are true to with the foundational statements.

Perspective on Relationships

The school and community are connected. The active involvement and roles of all partners – students, family, community, school staff, educators, Aboriginal Governments, business, etc. -- are highly valued in the learning that occurs inside and outside school walls. Learning involves relationships with ideas, people, life experiences, languages, spirituality, and culture.
